No! Put the jewelry on a plain background, turn off the flash, and snap a few photos with your phone or camera. Try to keep it in focus and don’t worry about getting every detail. We are looking to get a rough idea of what you have, the size of the piece and the design. We can tell pretty quickly whether it is something that could be resold, or if it would be something valued for its materials alone.
For diamonds and gemstones, if you have a certificate from a laboratory (such as GIA), please include that documentation with the jewelry. Some labs are better than others, but having that information is very helpful.
If you have an appraisal, we can look at that as well, but it is not necessary for us to have that information to make a decision. Most appraisals are for retail replacement values, and we are basing our valuations on different criteria. Also appraisal valuations are for insurance purposes and are not that helpful when selling the piece.
No, you do not need to clean or repair your items. We can evaluate them as they are.
